(Often-Used Phrases)

I'm putting some Romulan phrases and terms I find myself using often, or which I had occasion to figure out how to say at some time.  Most of the terms were constructed by me from existing resources;  some are taken directly from existing resources.  The phrases employ material from existing sources as well as the terms I constructed.  I have attempted to organize these into categories, but some of the categories overlap, while others would be represented by only a small number of words, phrases, and/or sentences if they were not combined with other categories.

Arhem G'essatra ir'Virinat t'Prell, galae'Enriov s'Tal'Diann s'Kreh'dhhokh Mol'Rihanai.
"I am G'essatra of Virinat a woman of the clan Prell, Fleet Admiral of the Tal'Diann of the New Romulan Republic."
(Verbose Linguist Commentary [Very Long, and Somewhat Technical, Language Geek Note]:
 - This sentence above is composed in the Virinat dialect of Rihan, in use on the Virinat colony.  In Standard Rihan, it would be written thusly:  Arhem Jessatra ir'Virinat t'Prell, galae'Enriov s'Tal'Diann s'Kreh'dhhokh Mol'Rihanai.  As can be seen, the only difference in this sentence between my "Virinat dialect" and Standard Rihan is a single variation in orthography [spelling] and phonology [pronunciation], involving the change of the standard letter J in initial position to the dialectical letter G', which is pronounced in exactly the same way as the standard J.  As time goes on and I continue to work on this, additional divergences will be created, but they will probably be only very slight differences from the standard.  However, I intend to develop a more distinct dialect for the planet ch'Mol'Rihan, whose population is largely made up of refugees from various colony worlds which were attacked by the Tal'Shiar and their Elachi allies.  Over time, the language spoken on ch'Mol'Rihan would naturally evolve into something different from the Standard Rihan which was in use on ch'Rihan before the destruction of the Eisn system, if for no reason other than the fact that the Romulan colony worlds should be expected to have developed slight differences in their language from the standard [including especially the invention of words to describe things which existed only on those colony worlds], and by coming together on ch'Mol'Rihan, the people of these colonies would influence one another's speech to the point that it would begin to differ enough from the standard to be considered an authentic dialect.  In addition, things exist on ch'Mol'Rihan, various flora and fauna, which did not exist on ch'Rihan, and of course new words would have to be coined for these.  This dialect would become more distinct through the passage of time and the increased contact with other species which characterizes the New Romulan Republic, eventually evolving into a new form of Rihan which would go beyond mere dialectical divergence, much as Old English developed into Middle English and Middle Scots, and Middle English developed into Early Modern English [while Middle Scots developed into Airlie Modren {sic} Scots], and Early Modern English developed into the various contemporary dialects of English spoken at the beginning of the 21st century, chief among which are British Standard English and American Standard English [whiles Airlie Modren Scots grew intae the sindrae dialecks o modren Braid Scots sic as the Doric fit's spake in Aberdeenshire, Lallans that's spake in the Lawlands, the Glesca dialeck at's spake in Glesca, an ither dialecks in ither airts o Scotland -- contemporary Broad Scots is not a dialect of contemporary English, but a distinct language with its own dialects, even though contemporary English and contemporary Broad Scots share the common ancestor of Old English;  both are also different languages from Old English, and different languages from Middle English].  The obvious name for this new form of Rihan would be Mol'Rihan, or Doaege Mol'Rihan [New Romulan, or New Romulan Language], reflecting the name of the planet "New Romulus" [as an aside, the name ch'Mol'Rihan literally means "of-{the}-New-Romulans," just as ch'Rihan literally means "of-{the}-Romulans"] and also acknowledging the socio-political differences, and hence, eventually, cultural differences, between the Romulans and the New Romulans.)

R.R.W. Hvei'Khenn enters (planetary) system of New Romulans in the completion of (during the end of) her maiden voyage.
- ieliu'edh - completion (ieliu'edh dha - in completion [temporal "in"]
- havrae - voyage (havraen - of-voyage)
- ih'hwi - first
- havraen ih'hwin (of maiden voyage)

ch'M'R Hvei'khenn h'rau Ouahh'ri s'Aegein Lhaiyai.
R.R.W. Hvei'khenn in-System of-Gas (of-)Blue.
(R.R.W. Hvei'khenn in the Azure Nebula.)
Note that there was no word for "nebula" in the resources I consulted, so I had to construct a Romulan term for "nebula."  Note also that Ouahh s'Aegein Lhaiyai is a proper noun, and so s'Aegein is appropriate, whereas the genitive form of an unnamed nebula would be aegeinai
(("Ouahh s'Aegein Stekin" would probably be a better name for the Azure Nebula, since the shade of blue which is characteristic of the Nebula is more like steki than lhaiy.  This would make the above sentence more accurately:  "ch'M'R' Hvei'Khenn h'rau Ouahh'ri s'Aegein Stekin."))

(This is the fleet battle-cry of the Tal'Diann [sometimes shortened to "Flaihh'u ch'Rihan!  Flaihh'u Virinat!"].  This battle-cry is based on the battle-cry of the Texans during the Texas Revolution:  "Remember the Alamo!  Remember Goliad!" which called upon the revolutionaries to remember the site of two massacres committed by their opponents.  In the same way, both the homeworlds ch'Rihan and ch'Havran, as well as colonies like Virinat and Crateris, were subjected to massacres by the Tal'Shiar, with ch'Rihan u' ch'Havran being completely destroyed by the Tal'Shiar when they caused the Hobus Supernova, and the peaceful agricultural colony on Virinat and the peaceful mining colony on Crateris being attacked by the Tal'Shiar and their Elachi allies.  In both cases, untold numbers were slaughtered, while in the attacks on Virinat and Crateris, many colonists were taken captive and subjected to experimentation by the Elachi [and were then turned into food for Elachi young], and torture by the Tal'Shiar.  These were Crimes Against Peace and Crimes Against Romulanity, perpetrated by the cowardly and inept Tal'Shiar, and must be remembered, so as to remind us why we fight the Tal'Shiar and the Shiar ih'Saeihr Rihan.)

Aen Rehillh = Ashen Wing
Khaiell Rehilh = Ashen Wind
There is no official word for the noun "ash" in any dictionary at my disposal, although there is a small corpus of literature in Rihan which has not always been codified and added to the dictionaries, in which some such word might be found. However, many Rihannsu revere the Elements, and in cultures with such perspectives, it would not be uncommon to find a common thing named with reference to personified Elements, such as Okhala, the Element of Fire among the Rihanh (not the same as non-elemental fire, not the same as plasma fire, but the Personification of the Element of Fire in a Mystical or Religious sense). A possibility for "ash," then, might be something like "child of Fire," which would give:
veoth s'Okhala = Offspring of Fire = Ash
the plural in this example would be:
veothir s'Okhala
So for a mame like "One Who Walks Among Ashes," I come up with:
nveninen sa'veoth s'Okhala = Walker with Ash, One-Who-Walks with Ash
or
nveninen sa'veothir s'Okhala = Walker with Ashes, One-Who-Walks with Ashes.
Nveninen sa'veothir s'Okhala would perhaps be best?

When people think an idea is theirs, they take it so much the more to heart than if they think they got it from someone else, or worse, followed a great public trend. There is nothing people want to do more than to follow great trends, and nothing they want less to seem to be doing.

My translation:
Rihan:

Literal Aenglish:
When people believe [an] idea theirs, they embrace it more much [sic;  more much] than they embrace [an] idea which they believe they received from-someone-else/someone-else-from or, worse, from-following [an] opinion popular extensively.  People desire-not more anything than to-follow opinions extensive, and-to-seem not to-do such

Idiomatic Aenglish:
When people believe an idea theirs, they embrace it much more than they embrace an idea which they believe they received from someone else or, worse, from following a wide-spread popular opinion.  People do not desire anything more than to follow wide-spread opinions, and to seem not to do such.
