Errand of Mercy

Errand of Mercy,
or,
Tomorrow Is "Giving Tuesday,"
by the Player of Praetor Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon

((This is all OOC.))

Tomorrow is "Giving Tuesday," a global day dedicated to giving back.  For those who can and would like to give to a charity on this Giving Tuesday, many worthy causes exist.  You may of course select one or more of your own ways of being charitable and compassionate on Giving Tuesday, but I would like to recommend the following (to my knowledge, none of these have ever endorsed any political candidate, unlike some in my list last year):

in memory of Leonard Nimoy (if you like, or in memory of someone in your life)

Thanks for giving, you who are willing and able to do so.

If you are not able to give, that's alright, too.  I've been there myself, and I understand.

The title of the post comes from Star Trek (The Original Series), Season 1, episode 26;  episode 26 overall;  production code 27.

Retrospective Honeymoon Picture

At one point during their honeymoon, Ta'lis and Ji'ana with some of their bridge crew went to a cave on Kobali Prime as a launching point for an attack on Vaadwaur troops, and then decimated the Vaadwaur forces.

Eitreih'Okhala, 2016 (Festival of Fire, 2016)

The people of ch'Mol'Rihan (New Romulus) celebrate Eitreih'Okhala (the Festival of Elemental Fire) this year on 25 June (in the reckoning of the Terrhasu).  In the continuation of our lives, we do not forget who we are, nor abandon our culture.

The Tal'Diann will host -- and guard -- the celebration this year, in a special venue on Risa, in conjunction with the Risian Lohlunat Festival.  Join us for lyhorin (jumbo Romulan mollusks), viinerine (a traditional Romulan food), roast travit, ghanir ih'sraesir (meatrolls), seskethir ih'osolir (osol twists), and of course, generous amounts of kheh'irho (Romulan ale), wines, and kali-fal, as well as music and dance, and all the attractions of Risa and the Risian Lohlunat Festival,  Recruiters will also be on hand for those who aspire to join our ranks.

The event starts at 7pm (US Eastern), 6pm (US Central), 5pm (US Mountain), 4pm (US Pacific).

Tal'Diann Celebration of Republic Day, 2016-04-10

Eitreih'vauthil s'Kre'dhhokh Mol'Rihanai
Festival of the New-Romulan Republic's Victory
(Republic Day)

April 5 is the officially stated date for "Republic Day" according to Cryptic Studios. However, we have so far had only one officially-sponsored/sanctioned PWE/Cryptic Republic Day event, the year before last, and no indication was given that the event would be run officially this year, on the fifth or any other date. As such, the Tal'Diann took it upon ourselves to host a celebration of Eitreih'vauthil s'Kre'dhhokh Mol'Rihanai (Festival of the New-Romulan Republic's Victory) on Sunday evening, the 10th of April, which was scheduled to run for only two hours, but actually went on well past that duration.

The Music for the Festival

The festivities began in orbit of ch'Mol'Rihan (New Romulus) with a fireworks display, and then moved to the Staging Area with a dance party, followed by a number of contests and games with prizes, and then returned to orbit for a few more contests.

A scene from the early portion of the celebrations on the surface

A good time was had by all (including our resident curmudgeon, who naturally refused to admit it).  We had a number of guests from other fleets, including a couple of our Beta fleets, -Singularity Core- and the Imperial Union of Planets, and some of our friends from Project Trident and Argo.  We will repeat the event in the future should there be no official celebration again, although with some lessons learned from this year's event.

Thanks to all who turned out to make this event a success!

Thiichu Khreh'dhhokh Mol'Rihan u'Mol'Rihannsu!
Long live the New-Romulan Republic and the New-Romulans!

D'annha s'Ta'lis ih Ji'anah'ri (Marriage of Ta'lis to Ji'ana)

Hfihar s'Charvon

Temsaehus Hfirh s'Charvon
A Proclamation of Houseclan Charvon

Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye, one and all!

Hfihar s'Charvon celebrates the wedding of Ta'lis i'ih'Aefau t'Ehhelih to Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon!

The Betrothed:  Ta'lis i'ih'Aefau t'Ehhelih and Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon, before the wedding

Here follows a record of the Rite:

D'annha s'Ta'lis ih Ji'anah'ri
(Marriage of Ta'lis to Ji'ana)

Music

:: Aboard her flagship, the R.R.W. Ta'lis e'lev, Ji'ana received a hail and ordered the channel open on the viewscreen. ::

:: The viewscreen displayed an image of Ta'lis, standing at the north end of the intact Tamh Ulhei (Ancient Bridge) over the Vastam River on New Romulus. ::
Ta'lis then spoke:  "Ji'ana, aei rhanne."
("Ji'ana, it is I.")

:: Ji'ana rose from her chair at the sight of Ta'lis on the viewscreen, and spoke. ::
"Ta'lis, mosfvaih'eri mh'rhanam u'mosfvaih'eri p'tned-pra'krsh, crawae'enh u'crawae'eri diamn u'p'tned-pra'krsh.  Mnean paeti hrrau anhelaefvevha ormiin'erievha."
("Ta'lis, separated from me and never separated, always and never feeling and felt.  We meet at the chosen place.")

::In response, Ta'lis spoke again. ::
"Ji'ana, mosfvaih'eri mh'rhanam u'mosfvaih'eri p'tned-pra'krsh, crawae'enh u'crawae'eri diamn u'p'tned-pra'krsh.  Rhanne ourhhe hwaovha."
("Ji'ana, separated from me and never separated, always and never feeling and felt.  I wait for thee.")

:: Ji'ana, having beamed down to the surface of New Romulus, approached the center of the ancient bridge from the south and rang the ceremonial gong once, waiting a few moments before ringing it again, after which her Hfihar members entered the area from the south, led by Galactica and Llaiir, stopping on the south side of the Priestess (Kara). ::

:: Ta'lis and her attendants approached from the north, Ta'lis pausing halfway to the chosen place and waiting with two of her attendants behind her, and one guard, Da'lor, while the others of her party continue and stop on the north side of the Priestess (Kara). ::

:: Karataia, standing in the middle of the bridge and facing the waterfalls, spoke. ::
"Fvah hrian hnafirhn'dhohh aekhho siumel temrhaen, Na Ikara'edh ja astev.  Elet na caevra Rihan, elet na hachae Rihan -- elet latas mnei.
("What you will see comes down from the time of the Beginning, before The Sundering.  This is the Romulan heart, this is the Romulan soul -- this is our way.")

:: Ji'ana dropped the gong mallet, took the Lirpa from her back, and glared around at the assembled, daring any to challenge the marriage, then rang the gong a third time, with the blunt end of the Lirpa. ::

:: Ta'lis and her two attendants came forward to the center of the bridge, Ta'lis standing to Ji'ana's left and taking her hand as they both faced west, away from the waterfalls and toward the Priestess. ::

:: Karataia addressed the assembled. ::

"Aefvadh, qiuu nunh.  ahr'bresa'eri hrrau tamhevha ulhei tivhevha mnean vr'd'annhavha s'Ta'lis i'ih'Aefau s'Ehhelih u's'Ji'ana ir'Vastam s'Charvon."
("Be welcome, all here.  We are gathered on this ancient bridge for the marriage of Ta'lis i'ih'Aefau t'Ehhelih and Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon.")

"Rhaae'rau.
("Let it begin.)

"Ta'lis, from the ih'Aefau, daughter of Hfihar s'Ehhelih, are you prepared for and do you consent to taking Ji'ana as your wife?"

:: Ta'lis responded. ::
"Ie.  Yes."

:: Karataia addressed Ji'ana then. ::
"Ji'ana, resident of the Vastam Region, daughter of Hfihar s'Charvon, are you prepared for and do you consent to taking Ta'lis as your wife?"

:: Ji'ana nodded. ::
"Ie.  Yes."

:: Karataia raised her hands to the couple in the ancient gesture. ::
"Then join your minds."

:: Ji'ana turned to face her love and raised her left hand in the same gesture. ::

:: Ta'lis faced her beloved and lifted her right hand, forming the same gesture and bringing her hand into contact with that of Ji'ana. ::

:: Ji'ana spoke slowly and deliberately. ::
"Gemaen rhanam i gemaen hwaoi.  Temaelhein rhanam i temaelhein hwaoi."
("My mind to thy mind.  Thy thoughts to my thoughts.")

:: Ta'lis responded in the same slow and deliberate manner. ::
"Caevra hwaoi i caevra rhanam.  Hachae rhanam i hachae hwaoi."
("Thine heart to mine heart.  My soul to thy soul.")

:: Karataia then spoke, in the same fashion. ::
"Gemaenir hraen, anna'eri u'aeiiht ..."
("Your minds, one and together ...")

:: Ta'lis spoke again. ::
"Crawae'enh, ssuy crawaekhe'enh.  Mosfvaih'eri ssuy mosfvaih'eri p'tned-pra'krsh."
("Feeling, yet not feeling.  Separated, yet never separated.")

:: Ji'ana responded in kind. ::
"Crawae'enh, ssuy crawaekhe'enh.  Mosfvaih'eri ssuy mosfvaih'eri p'tned-pra'krsh."
("Feeling, yet not feeling.  Separated, yet never separated.")

:: The couple then spoke in unison. ::
"ahr'hwi mnean."
("We are one.")

:: Karataia solemnly announced ... ::
"The marriage has succeeded.  Let all celebrate the marriage of Ta'lis ei'Ehhelih t'Charvon and Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon."

:: The married couple then beamed up to Ta'lis' flagship, the R.R.W. Ji'ana a'rhea, to consummate their union. ::

:: Karataia spoke once more. ::
"The blissful couple wish to thank you all for your attendance, and will join us shortly at the reception on the banks of the Atlai."

The Newlyweds:  Ta'lis ei'Ehhelih t'Charvon and Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon

Let there be rejoicing throughout the Republic!  Temer's hope can be fulfilled!  They who were once enemies are now united, in friendship, and in love!

Dhiamn Mollais vr'Tem'nnhaivher (New Place for Discussions -- New Fora)

Dhiamn Mollais vr'Tem'nnhaivher
(New Place for Discussions)
[New Forum Site]

Following recent events (and while I am loathe to air such grievances publicly, the other party involved has done so already at least twice in an effort to save face, and therefore, I will state, for purposes of setting things straight, that the causes were personal disagreements of a real-world political and economic nature, which were preceded by his assumption applied to Linguistics that "democracy" means that the opinions of those ignorant of Linguistics are just as valid as the certain knowledge of those trained in Linguistics, and, while those were mere annoyances to me, there was also a stated intention to deny me credit for my work on expanding the vocabulary of the Rihan language, which was a much more serious affront indicating a total lack, not only of respect, but also, of integrity), our organization found itself in need of a new site to host our fora.  I never asked anyone to set up or host a forum site for us, but someone volunteered and did so, and we used that site for some time.  However, after he started working at a new job, his attitude began to change in several ways.  Some of the officers of our organization witnessed some of the events as they unfolded, and some have seen evidence which I was able to show them.

That's all I want to say about the past (but, by the Mother, I have numerous screenshots and logs, and even whole webpages saved, and I will dig them out and post them if he doesn't stop the childish routine of attempted character assassination), and now I want to move on.  Hopefully, this will be the last time I have to address the matter publicly.

This situation of needing a new site to host our fora was anticipated for some time, and so I had already taken steps in preparation by backing up all of the old fora (among other things ...).  I had also already been looking into alternatives;  frankly, I never wanted to have to rely on someone else, nor be beholden to them.  And as I already said, I didn't ask for him to set up that site;  he volunteered it and so we used it, but now his hospitality has been withdrawn, and so ...

I have set up a forum site for us myself now.  It will take a while to re-post everything and re-code it, but that's just a matter of copy-pasting and going back over to ensure that the BBCode is applied to make boldface, italic, hyperlink, etc.  A simpler way exists, but it would involve my uploading of things which would eat up my data allowance (because I live in an area where there are no unlimited data packages available for internet access no matter how much I am willing and able to pay, and I'm not terribly fond of paying "overage" fees).  Thus, I have to ask you all to be patient while I rebuild (although, fortunately due to foresight, not from scratch).  However, we do have fora again (That was fast, ie?  Like I said, I felt it coming for some time before it arrived.).  I've been working on this site for a couple of days now, and while it's still not quite ready for primetime, I think it's at a point now where we can start accepting members.  You'll need an account with Enjin.com, and you'll need to apply to our site and wait for me to approve your application;  I don't have any other Admins, SuperMods, or Moderators with many real privileges yet (although some have been assigned some of those tags and do have some privileges at this time), so I will still have to be the one approving applications until I have set up additional tools and privileges.

With no further ado, then, here is the link to the new forum site:

Eitreih'orheika, Eitreih'Aylhr, u'Eitreih'Qiuu'n, 2015

Eitreih'orheika,
Eitreih'Aylhr,
u'Eitreih'Qiuu'n,
2015
Festival of the Ancestors,
Festival of Space,
and Festival of the Arch-Element,
2015

Earlier tonight, the Tal'Diann, with a few allied guests from the Imperial Union of Planets, the House of Beautiful Orions, and elsewhere within the RRF, observed the traditional Romulan and Reman holidays of Eitreih'orheika, Eitreih'Aylhr, and Eitreih'Qiuu'n on Risa, south of the Promenade at the Suraya Bay Resort.  The affair was cozy, a smaller crowd than was expected, but nevertheless, a moving experience.  We have preserved a record of the event, which we present here below.

The crowd gathered, the ceremonies not yet begun.

The ceremonies began.

Aefvadh, Rihannsu, Havrannsu, u'pinherein.

Eitreih'orheika 2015 (2410)

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  Aefvadh, Rihannsu, Havrannsu, u'pinherein.  Be welcome, Romulans, Remans, and guests.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  Tonight we are gathered to celebrate traditional Romulan and Reman holidays.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  In civilian life, these three holidays would be celebrated on three consecutive nights and days.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  However, military personnel can seldom take advantage of such extended celebration, due to the need to remain vigilant against threats and potential threats.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  Nevertheless, were we in the military to skip these traditional holidays entirely, we would run the risk of forgetting some of the reasons we serve.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  Romulan and Reman culture, and the protection, preservation, and promotion thereof, are among the things which make us who we are, and are among the things for which we fight against those who would oppress, enslave, or exterminate us.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  These holidays are traditionally observed by each Hfihar, or Houseclan, and in local temples, shrines, groves, high places, and the like.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  The first holiday we celebrate tonight is Eitreih'orheika, the Festival of the Ancestors.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  Eitreih'orheika is traditionally celebrated near a body of water, for water, in Romulan and Reman traditional symbolism, represents the Past.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  On this holiday, we remember our Ancestors who have crossed over to Vorta Vor since the last year's celebration of the holiday.

Ji'ana t'Charvon:  This remembrance, however, is not limited to Ancestors of Body alone, but also includes Ancestors of Hachae, or Soul.

Karataia u'Ji'ana

Kara t'Charvon:  An Ancestor of Hachae is someone who has contributed to the intellectual and/or emotional aspects of a person, someone who has inspired, someone who has taught, someone who has helped to make the person what they are today.

Kara t'Charvon:  Musicians and Philosophers, Educators and Authors, Clergy and Warriors, Mentors and Role Models, all of these may be included by the individual as Ancestors of Hachae.

Kara t'Charvon:  We have all lost comrades in the past year, over the course of wars and battles.

Kara t'Charvon:  Some have fallen to disease, others to old age.

Kara t'Charvon:  Death comes for us in different guises.

Kara t'Charvon:  However, our Legacy lives!

Kara t'Charvon:  We continue in the memories of those who knew and loved us in life.

Kara t'Charvon:  We continue in those whom we have inspired, whom we have taught, whom we have led, whom we have followed.

Kara t'Charvon:  We continue in the Legacy which we bequeath to the future.

Kara t'Charvon:  When we who are yet living remember those who have gone before us into the Great Mystery, we keep their Legacy alive.

Kara t'Charvon:  When we live and carry on what they have taught us and inspired in us, we Honor these Ancestors, whether they were Ancestors of Body or Ancestors of Hachae.

Amon tr'Aegis:  We are all of us products of the Past, products of those who have gone before us.

Amon tr'Aegis:  We are also, however, free.

Amon tr'Aegis:  We are not slaves to the Past.  Ancestors of Hachae contribute to our freedom.

Amon tr'Aegis:  Regardless of genetics and upbringing, those who teach us, who inspire us, who entertain us, all of these and more contribute to our own choices.

Amon tr'Aegis:  While we remember the Past, we live in the Present, and work toward a better Future.

Amon tr'Aegis:  We Honor the Past.  We Respect the Present.  We work for a Worthy Future for those who will come after us.

Amon tr'Aegis:  Eitreih'orheika is about all of these things:  Past, Present, and Future, although it focuses on the Past.

Amon tr'Aegis:  We have mourned those who have gone on into the Unknown through the past year.  We will now give them one final memorial before moving on.

Amon tr'Aegis:  This does not mean, of course, that we will forget them after this night.

Amon tr'Aegis:  They are, and will always be, with us.

Amon tr'Aegis:  With no further ado, we proceed to the recitation of the names of the departed.

Amon tr'Aegis:  Thank you all for sharing in our ceremony Honoring the Ancestors.  We shall observe a brief intermission before proceeding to the celebration of Eitreih'Aylhr, the Festival of Space.

Eitreih'Aylhr 2015 (2410)

Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon: We have Honored the Past.

Ji'ana: We shall now show our Respect for the Present.

Ji'ana: Eitreih'Aylhr, the Festival of Space, or the Festival of the Void, follows Eitreih'orheika, and symbolically represents the Present.

Ji'ana:  Even the Stars are frail compared to the Void of Space between them.

Karataia ir'Vastam t'Charvon:  Space, the Void, is a vast frontier of unexplored darkness.

Amon ei'Xiomek tr'Aegis:  The Star Road traces a path through this enormous Emptiness.

Ji'ana:  The story is told of a well-educated scholar who sought out a famous mystic in order to learn from her.

Kara:  The scholar boasted of his achievements, the books he had read, the musical instruments he had mastered, the languages he spoke, his training in the finest academies, colleges, and universities, in an effort to impress the mystic so that she would accept him as a disciple.

Amon:  After listening patiently for a long while, the mystic said she was going to prepare some tea for them.

Ji'ana:  She went into another room of her home and remained away for an extended time.

Kara:  The scholar became concerned and went to look for her.

Amon:  He found the mystic holding a teapot under a fountain of running water, which had filled the teapot and was running over and out, down the drain.

Ji'ana:  The scholar asked what she was doing, and the mystic answered that she was filling the teapot with water.

Kara:  The scholar exclaimed, "But it's already full!  It can't hold any more water!"

Amon:  At that, the mystic shut the fountain off and poured the excess water down the drain, then set the teapot on the fire to boil, and calmly walked back into her sitting room.

Ji'ana:  The scholar followed, confused.

Kara:  When they had both taken their seats again, the mystic looked keenly at the scholar and explained, "Like the teapot, you are full to overflowing.  In order for you to hold what I can teach, you must first empty yourself and make room."

Amon:  Just as knowledge has value, so too does Emptiness offer opportunity for knowledge.

Amon:  Ignorance is no crime;  willful ignorance is a vice.

Kara:  Knowledge is a virtue;  dogmatic arrogance is undesirable.

Ji'ana:  In order to learn, one must recognize that she or he has yet to attain all knowledge.

Amon:  Wisdom comes from acknowledging that one can always learn more, and that additional knowledge may reveal errors in what one believes that she or he knows.

Kara:  But in order for learning to happen, there must be some Space for it.

Ji'ana:  Let the Declared Travelers reflect on the Void and accept that the Void is within all things, and all persons, and must be, as we observe a moment of silence.

Eitreih'Qiuu'n 2015 (2410)

Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon: After Eitreih'Aylhr, the Festival of Space, or the Festival of the Void, follows Eitreih'Qiuu'n.

Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon: This is often said to mean "Festival of the Arch-Element," but literally, it means "Festival of All-Things."

Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon: It is a celebration of the Potent Allseed Potentiality endowed with all Powers inherent in the Plenitude, or the Fullness, the Pleroma.

Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon: When we think of the Arch-Element, the Quintessence, that which permeates all and is all, we recognize Potentiality.

Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon: The Future comes always, and we endeavor to be ready for it as it comes, so that we may build a Worthy Legacy for those who will come after us.

Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon: Thank you all for attending these ceremonies.

Ji'ana ir'Vastam t'Charvon: The bar is open.  Let the celebrations commence!
